A serial rapist from Tembisa, on the East Rand in Gauteng, was sentenced to 12 life terms plus more than 300 years.
Gift Mkhwanazi, dubbed the "Beast of Tembisa", was sentenced in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg for a spate of rapes in and around the township between 2013 and June 2019.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, Mkhwanazi was charged with 104 counts, which ranged from rape, kidnapping, pointing a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault and attempted murder.
