DNA Oversight Board Report: A Paper Tiger?

This month, in a parliamentary hearing before the Portfolio Committee on Police, the DNA Board presented its recommendations to maximise efficiency at South Africa’s three DNA laboratories. During the session, the board criticised the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for failing to respond to four requests regarding its recovery plan for the burgeoning backlog, which has now surpassed 140,000 cases, with productivity falling below 10%. In response, the committee chair called for an external audit by the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA). Read the board’s full report here, along with its recommendations for recovery.
