PROTECTING DNA EVIDENCE AFTER RAPE - the role of the victim


In a recent study, the personal hygiene practices reported by rape victims were examined to assess their impact on forensic evidence quality. Findings suggest that certain practices could compromise evidence preservation. This underscores the importance of public awareness regarding evidence preservation after rape incidents. In this article, simple guidelines are provided to aid in preserving forensic evidence effectively. This initiative aims to educate the public and potentially reduce the attrition of rape cases, thereby increasing convictions by the criminal justice system.


In the article, a set of guidelines has been published to encourage the general public to maintain the integrity of potential forensic evidence and raise awareness of preserving such evidence after a rape incident. Adhering to these guidelines could significantly decrease the attrition of rape cases and enhance the probability of convictions by the criminal justice system.
